This position is concerned with supervising the production of catalysts for sample orders and small production orders. The incumbent directly supervises the activities of all hourly personnel who are assigned to the area and is responsible for optimum safety, quality, and productivity for their shift.

The incumbent reports directly to the Prototypes & Samples Manager and is directly responsible for the supervision of the Samples Technicians assigned to their shift. The incumbent works jointly with QA/QC, Maintenance, Material Control, Development and Process Engineering to solve any problems that arise. They will also monitor new technologies and reports any problems or difficulties which may hinder processing in production. The Samples Shift Supervisor will also lead and assist with projects to drive continuous improvement in the area.

The Supervisor also prepares yearly performance evaluations on time and is responsible for developing their direct reports.

Your responsibilities:

  • Employee will comply with all Johnson Matthey Hazardous Waste procedures and local, state and federal regulatory requirements

  • Appropriately provide the care, means, ability, and accountability in order to grow individuals within their charge

  • Lead the efforts required to achieve high efficiency, minimize rejects (LTY), and avoid waste while accomplishing the manufacturing of catalyst

  • Monitor, identify and coordinate the training needs of new and existing personnel

  • Prepare yearly performance reviews

  • Coordinate the efforts needed to detect, identify, segregate, document and store non-conforming product

  • Participate in technology transfer teams when required

  • Follow, monitor and maintain the departmental standard process procedures according to best manufacturing practices

  • Provide suggestions on cost savings as well as process and product quality improvements

  • Responsible for immediate actions to ensure that product meets customer specifications

  • Responsible for ensuring that product is properly released after completion. This includes taking action to resolve any issues associated with the lot clearing (quantity conciliation, required inspections, product segregation, product identification, additional testing, etc…), so production or shipments are not delayed.

  • Directly responsible for coordinating housekeeping activities associated with the areas under his/her responsibility

  • Staffs technician positions and organizes them to ensure an efficient and productive operation. Directly responsible for coordinating and monitoring coverage due to breaks, shortage, vacations or call offs.

  • Provide monthly reports on specific operating results or activities

  • Understand and apply TS16949 and ISO14001 principles from relevant training and procedures

  • All other duties as assigned or required

  • Comply with all federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations and requirements

  • Comply with company policies

Requirements for the role:

  • B.S. in an engineering discipline with 1-2 years of Process Control Engineer experience and 1-2 years of Washcoat Engineer experience or commensurate hands-on manufacturing supervision experience; or any equivalent relevant combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work

  • Must have washcoat and coating experience

  • Proficient PC skills, including MS Office, desirable
